Well, I can see I've done a terrible job of keeping my Blog up since February. Let's see...

My first outing was on March 26 on the back of my buddy Nicky's boat. My boat was still awaiting delivery of my batteries that I had ordered for use with my new 80 pound trolling motor. I managed to catch one 15" bass with Nicky.

Then Danny, Nicky and I fished Weston Mills Pond on April 8. I missed a number of fish on a red shad Smallie Sweet Beaver (I know, Reaction Innovations doesn't make red shad Beavers. I've been pouring my own.) and finally caught a 14" largemouth on a red shad Culprit worm. I also caught a really nice pickerel, but that doesn't count.

Then on April 14, I fished Lake Musconetcong with Nicky and Danny again. I caught two 12" bass and two dinks on a rainy, wet day.

On May 6, the three of us (plus Nicky's rider John) fished Monksville Reservoir. I caught one 16" and one 12" smallmouth plus three dinks. What was interesting is that it is the first time that I had ever caught bedding bass. John was a pro at it, irritating the fish into biting. The largemouth took a lot of patience to catch. Danny pestered one for about half an hour, missed him 5 or 6 time, and finally managed to hook him up. The smallmouth were much more aggressive. If it was on their bed, they were going to kill it and move it, and they hit like a freight train.

May 21 found Nicky and I on Carnegie Lake in Princeton. I managed 1-14 3/4", 1-13 1/2", 1-112 3/4", 1-12 1/2", 1-12" and one dink. All the fish came on a spinnerbait. They didn't seem interested in anything else.

On May 27, I drove down to the Susquehanna Flats in MD with buddy Rob to prefish for the NJ BASS Federation Open Tournament on May 28. I caught one 17" largemouth on a spinnerbait.

On May 28, I fished as a non-boater with Harold on the Flats. He and I had very similar fishing styles and he was the most considerate boater I have ever fished with in a tournament, making a point of offering me the front deck for half of our fishing time. I caught one 14" and one 13 3/4" largemouth, but the limit on the Flats is 15", so they didn't count in the tourney. I lost one that Harold says was 3 1/2 pounds easily at the boat when the fish ran under the boat, then came back out, jumped and spit the hook. Harold managed one a little over 15" and one nice bass 18-19".

And that's how it's gone. Unfortunately, travel for work has had me away a lot of weekends, but I'm hoping that will be minimized in the future and I'll be able to spend more time actually fishing.

See you on the lake...
