Well, it's a Saturday and I decided to take a day off from fishing. It's humid as all get out, and I haven't been fishing well lately, and I worked my ass off all week, AND I have to spend next week in North Carolina on business. So I decided to take it easy and get some extra Zs. I'm waiting for the bass to move to the Fall pattern but that doesn't seem to have happened yet. The bass really put on the feeding bag in Fall, stocking up for the long winter ahead.

One of my fishing buddies, Nicky, is out today on Farrington Lake. (We've all been sticking with lakes closer to home due to high gas prices... Honest to God, I remember my father paying 28 cents for regular when I was a kid. Last week, I paid $3.19. Some difference, huh? Another thing... how come the cost of a barrel of oil went up 15%, but the price of gas at the pump went up 30-35%? Can you spell "gouging"?) Nicky's doing OK, as of 10:15 AM he had two bass 15 inches and two bass 17 inches. He ignores my text messages when I ask what he caught them on, instead invoking his favorite expression; "It's not the gun, it's the man behind the gun!"

And maybe it is... I've fished a few tournaments with some really good fishermen who were using lower end gear than I was but were cleaning my clock. Still, I have to believe that a more sensitive rod helps you detect bites, no matter who you are. Of course, maybe they're feeling the line directly so they don't need a sensitive rod.

I'm on vacation week after next and plan to spend the whole week fishing. Maybe I can meet up with some on-line friends and finally meet them face to face. Hopefully, Fall fishing will be a reality by then. 'Til next time, tight lines...
