Bass Fishing at Sunrise

Fished Greenwood Lake on Friday. We arrived late (11:00 AM) and went right to work. Unfortunately, the fish were just not biting. I caught a dink on a drop shot, and a perch on a crankbait, but that was it. My fishing buddy Rob caught a couple of dinks and a rock bass. We went to all the hot spots but no luck. We threw drop shots, spider grubs, crankbaits, jigs, and weighted Senkos but to no avail. By 3:30 we were ready to leave... a beautiful day out regardless of the outcome.

I'm on vacation this week and have been fishing twice on Farrington Lake, Monday and Wednesday. I met up with Rick, a friend I had made by email when he contacted me after seeing my site, but had never met. On Monday, we went south and fishing was tough. The wind kicked up, but the bass didn't turn on in spite of the approaching cold front. I finally caught one (17 inches) on a 4 inch Senko on the way back to the ramp. Rick hooked one with a crankbait, but it came unbuttoned at the boat. :o(
On Wednesday, though we hadn't planned it, we met again near the ramp, and decided to fish north. I caught a couple of dink bass, along with 4 pickerel, 2 perch and a sunfish. Rick caught one nice pickerel. The bigger bass were nowhere to be found, although we fished shallow, medium and deep, throwing Senkos, Sweet Beavers, deep- and medium-diving crankbaits, spinnerbaits, Rapala floaters, spider jigs and plastic worms. We tried flats, dropoffs, trees, the diminishing lily pad fields, and any structure and cover available. While I was disappointed not to find the bass, I had forgotten how much fun it is to catch fish with the Rapala; just about anything will hit it. So not a perfect bass fishing day, but fun on the water on a beautiful day.
Tomorrow I'm fishing Greenwood Lake with a friend; hope to catch some smallies.
